Hydrant flushing to begin in Huntertown

The Town of Huntertown Water Department will begin the annual Hydrant Flushing Program during the week of March 10, 2025. Hydrant flushing is an importance maintenance activity to clean and flush the Town water mains. This activity assists the Town in maintaining the highest quality of water in the public water system as well as ensures that hydrants are operating properly for Fire Department use.

This year's program is expected to continue throughout the month of March and April, if needed. Due to the nature of the flushing program, it is difficult to determine in advance the exact day we will be flushing in your area. Signs will be posted at the main entrance of neighborhoods that are being flushed to alert residents. Flushing will occur between 7:30am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

IMPORTANT: This program may temporarily cause discolored water and reduced water pressure in areas where flushing is being conducted. The water will remain safe to use and generally clears within a few hours after the flushing has been completed. Please follow the following guidelines while flushing is occurring in your area:

  • Avoid doing laundry and using hot water during hydrant flushing.
  • If discolored water/low pressure occurs, run your water faucet until water is clear after hydrant flushing is completed. The Town also recommends removing your aerator and rinsing it out.
  • Prior to washing clothes after the flushing is completed, first run water through the washing machine and ensure the water is clear.
